hair transplant hair female androgenetic alopecia

I was diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia at the age of 20. Ten years later, it started to really bother me. My colleagues began talking about it or staring at my scalp. I needed to find a solution quickly. I considered both hair transplants hair topper.

But how can you make such a decision when you know nothing about either option? At the time, I really felt like I had to choose between the plague and cholera. hair transplantation hair officially cholera for me. Having to wear a wig at 30, or undergoing surgery just to be able to look normal, was very painful for me to consider.

Here, I will tell you about my journey and the various factors that led me to make my decision 🥳

What to choose to move forward: hair transplant hair topper?

For ten years, I have been self-conscious and focused on my alopecia. For ten years, all I have seen is a sparse scalp in the mirror, in elevators, and in the windows of the Paris metro in the morning. My daughter is two years old, and I can no longer bear to see myself in photos with her. Sometimes I refuse to have my picture taken when I know my hair is too dirty for my alopecia to be presentable. I can't stay like this and make myself miserable. I absolutely must move forward. But how?

I now have two options: hair transplantation and ahair topper . But how do I choose between the two?

I need to weigh up these two options in order to make an informed choice.

hair transplant
My androgenetic alopecia at age 35. This photo is difficult for me to face. Even putting it in an article is complicated because I find it really awful. But it's important to face the current reality, to learn to accept it and no longer be ashamed of it.

hair transplant: initial information gathering.

I'm starting to look into hair transplants. Information about the results that can be achieved after a hair transplant in men is quite widespread. However, it is difficult to know for sure how effective hair transplants are hair women. There are a few before and after photos on Google Images. Some of them are impressive. But there are very few real positive testimonials. There is nothing on social media such as YouTube, blogs, or elsewhere. I am concerned that these photos may have been manipulated by surgeons or may not be representative of all of their patients.

That doesn't really reassure me. Especially since I've read several times that hair transplants hair not very effective in women. Unlike men, in whom the donor area for follicle grafts is little or not at all affected by alopecia, women tend to have more diffuse alopecia that affects the entire scalp. Androgenetic alopecia is an increased sensitivity of hair follicles to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). If the donor area itself is affected by alopecia, I understand that the grafts will also eventually fall out.

But I'm not a dermatologist. So this is just my understanding based on a quick read online. So I decide to visit a clinic that specializes in hair transplants. The website of one of the clinics suggests sending photos of your scalp before making an appointment. I do so because doing it remotely reassures me at first, as I find it difficult to talk about this problem, even to specialists. The clinic specializing in hair transplants receives my photos and replies:

“Hello Madam, Thank you for your request for information and your photos. Unfortunately, your alopecia is too diffuse to consider a hair transplant.”

It's simple, laconic, succinct. But at least it's clear!

Ultimately, having this answer prevents me from having to choose between hair topper hair transplants. Because I was really hesitating between these two alternatives.

Hair transplants are much more expensive (around €5,000 from what I understand), but I could have potentially regained my own hair, unlike with ahair topper . It's hard to imagine wearing a toupee/wig/dead fox on your head at 30 years old. I really felt like I had to choose between the plague and cholera. I was prepared to spend the $5,000. But how can you do that when you're not sure of the end result? Or even what it will look like in the long term?

I had also read that it was best to avoid hair transplants hair alopecia was still progressing. I was only 30 years old and had just one child. Of course my alopecia was still going to progress. Five years later, I now have three children (#respect #more lifetimes). My alopecia has progressed significantly in five years. And what will happen during menopause? I asked myself all these questions when I was considering a transplant. And I thought to myself that I might have to wait until I was 80 for a hair transplant to be an option for me 😱

Finally, during a hair transplant, the surgeon moves follicular grafts from a donor area to a recipient area. Unfortunately, this does not increase the final density of the hair. A rat tail ponytail will unfortunately remain a rat tail ponytail after a transplant 🐭! And I don't like rat tails! I prefer foxes 🦊.

What if I could really get the hair of my dreams?

At the same time, I went to a wig and toppers store. This was far from easy for me too. But when you've lost your hair... you do it! 😁 And in the end, the first fitting went pretty well. Of course, at first I thought it was obvious and that it was "too much hair." But after 30 minutes in front of the mirror looking at myself with a wary eye, I got used to this new image. And I even managed to find myself a little pretty.

At that point, I hadn't yet received the wonderful email from the clinic. So I was still very much torn between these two options. But I told myself that I would never regain as much hair as thishair topper could give me.

I was seriously considering opting for this option instead. But it was still difficult to make my choice. Because a transplant could also potentially be something that would work for me and allow me to become a normal person again (how I felt at the time). In the end, this email relieved me because it was no longer up to me to choose.

And finally, I was happy to think that I was going to have beautiful platinum blonde hair (I would have preferred my natural hair color, but oh well...) rather than a hair transplant.

Thishair topper hair literally changed my life. I have rediscovered myself. I have become who I used to be, who I should always have been. I then developed a real addiction to these products. Some girls are fans of handbags or shoes. I love buying toppers and wigs!

I love it so much that I launched my own brand, Comme un diadème, to introduce women to this wonderful solution. And above all, to offer them even more beautiful designs.

I could never have achieved such density with a hair transplant. So I will never regret my choice.

I am delighted to now be able to contribute daily to the democratization and normalization of these products, particularly on social media and on my YouTube channel, Comme un diadème:

Or on my Instagram, where a real community is forming around alopecia and hair supplements:

And if you too would like to adopt a beautiful fox 🦊 and avoid hair transplants, visit the Comme un diadème website:

If you are considering a hair transplant, I would strongly advise you to consult at least two specialist dermatologists to ensure that the procedure is right for you. It is really important to see someone who can give you honest advice and only perform the procedure if it will be truly effective for you in both the short and long term.

We use natural Brazilian "Remy" hair. The term "Remy" means that the hair and cuticles of the strand are oriented in the same direction on the topper. This is in contrast to non-Remy hair, which is assembled in bulk. As a result, it is more prone to tangling and damage.

You should choose the basic size of the topper the extent of your alopecia and the hair density you wish to achieve. It is preferable that the clips are not attached in the area of alopecia, as the scalp may be quite sensitive. In addition, extensive alopecia will require a high hair density to compensate for the low initial density.

For extensive alopecia, we recommend bases measuring 18 × 18 cm or 20 × 20 cm. These bases will provide effective coverage, density, and comfort. Larger bases are available for very extensive alopecia.

Smaller bases (15×15 cm) will give your hair a little less density. But they will make it easier to tie your hair up in a high ponytail.

To determine your wig size, please refer to the chart below.
