Before I started wearing ahair topper hair the age of 30, I used thickening powder for a long time to hide my androgenetic alopecia. I tested powders from several different brands over several years, on an occasional basis. So today, I can share with you a reliable and objective opinion on thickening powder as a solution for androgenetic alopecia.

Is it effective at concealing alopecia? How does it work in everyday use? Which brands can I recommend? Why did I decide to switch to another solution after using it for several years?
I'll tell you everything in this article!
Thickening powder: what is it?
Thickening powder is a keratin powder that attaches itself to the hair fiber hair electrostatic effects and gives the appearance of thickness when sprinkled onto the scalp.

The result is quite effective, as you can see in this photo:

I have never been able to determine precisely whether the product actually binds to the hair fiber, as claimed by the various brands, or whether it colors the scalp, but the result was very satisfactory for me.
Around the age of 27, my androgenic alopecia began to become quite visible. Over the years, my scalp had gradually become quite sparse, which was starting to cause me a lot of self-consciousness. I started using Kmax thickening powder, which is made exclusively from keratin and silica. For certain occasions such as weddings, job interviews, and evenings out with friends, I wanted to feel better and have real confidence in myself. So I used thickening powder fairly regularly to hide my androgenetic alopecia.
Application and use
The product is very easy to apply. Simply sprinkle it onto thinning areas to make them immediately less visible. It leaves no traces when you run your hand through your hair or on your face at the end of the day. I didn't find any traces on my pillows either. It doesn't run in the rain, although I wouldn't recommend standing in the rain with a lot of powder on your head—let's not tempt fate 😉
The product lasts for several days on the scalp without any problems, although it is best to reapply a little in the morning for optimal results. It washes out very easily with each shampoo.
The brands I have tested and recommend
Over the years, I have tried several brands of hair thickening powder. The one I have used the most is Kmax, which I was really very happy with. I initially chose this brand because of its composition. This powder is made exclusively from keratin and silica. I then tried Toppik, which is also very effective.
As part of a partnership, I also received Ultimane brand thickening powder. This powder is also a good alternative for women looking for a 100% natural product made from cotton fiber. However, the downside is that it spreads a little less evenly over the hair fiber hair to the previous two products.
At 30, I'm switching to a solution that works better for me!
Although this product is very effective at hiding my hair loss, I never really enjoyed applying it. I found it quite humiliating to have to sprinkle a product on my head to hide my "bald spots." What's more, the more my alopecia progressed, the more product I had to put on my head. Initially, I only had to sprinkle it on my hairline.
But after a few years, I was reduced to pouring a huge amount over my entire head (on top, on the sides, in front, behind... everywhere, in short!). It was when I realized that I was using almost half a jar on my head each time that I decided this solution was perhaps no longer the most suitable for me.
That's partly why I decided to switch to topper hair topper hair the age of 30. This solution suits me better because it gives me real hair density, compared to powder, which I think only has a "cover-up" effect. I didn't enjoy using thickening powder. I simply felt like I was camouflaging my problem and I was ashamed of having to resort to this type of product. Whereas when I clip on a topper, I get a "wow" effect that really transforms me and makes me feel beautiful.

However, I always have a jar of thickening powder at home because I still use this product from time to time, especially with pony toppers. Pony toppers are toppers designed to be worn with the hair tied back. They are positioned behind the front hairline. Thickening powder is very useful for hiding the difference in hair density between the pony and our front hairline.
Some women also use a little thickening powder with ahair topper to hide the transition at the front edge if they don't wear bangs or strands and don't want to position the topper forward.
Thickening powder is therefore a solution that may be worth considering, especially in cases of early alopecia, when you don't feel ready to switch to topper hair topper . It can help you easily and effectively conceal your alopecia. However, in the longer term and in cases of advanced alopecia, my opinion is that ahair topper hair wig will be a more effective solution for truly feeling like yourself again.
